Tickled Pink

I started The Bride's Cafe six weeks ago and I wanted to personally thank everyone that has "cheered" me on and have been faithful visitors.  Thanks for all the lovely features and for all the wonderful comments.  I am truly "tickled pink"!  So in true "Cafe Style", I decided to feature some of my favorite pink floral designs.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season with their families and friends and thanks again for visiting the cafe!  We'll be back open on Wednesday, January 2nd!

The Wedding Library

Today's post is about a wonderful wedding resource in New York called The Wedding Library. For those of you who are not familiar with this research boutique, I asked planners Claudia Hanlin & Jennifer Zambinski to share with us what The Wedding Library is all about.

The Wedding Library is unique - a chic haven where brides can consult with our experienced wedding planners, purchase scrumptious wedding products and research the finest wedding talent available.

Housed in our elegant four-story townhouse, we're known as the premier wedding planning service in Manhattan.  Our planners are meticulous, experienced, fun and accessible.  Our retail store houses the most stylish collection of boutique bridesmaid dresses including Thread, veils, headpieces and shoes.  We carry an exquisite collection of wedding stationery and our experts assist more brides than any other store in New York.  From custom artwork to fun shower invites - we've assembled the best there is to offer.

Our buyers constantly seek out unique and charming gifts for bridesmaids, friends and, of course, the bride.  From jewelry to guest books, we've gathered gifts we'd love to get.

We are widely credited for revolutionizing wedding planning by bringing together brides, vendors and experts under one roof, making it easy to assemble a team that's best for you.  Our seven-in-house planners offer a unique, complimentary referral service where you can review and discuss the work  of over 100 vendors.  Over the years we've distilled the vendors we recommend to those who are outstanding, innovative, reliable, personable, professional and fun.  Following a competitive and rigorous vetting process, the Wedding Library invites A-list vendors to become members of the Wedding Library.

The Wedding Party

On Saturday, January 26th, the Wedding Library is hosting The Wedding Party for brides.  The event is limited to 200 engaged ladies.  There will be a champagne breakfast at the Carlyle Hotel, celebrity speakers and the chance to meet all the best vendors in New York at the Wedding Library.  Martha Stewart Omnimedia is our exclusive media sponsor.  There will be a fabulous gift bag, food, gifts and the chance to win glamorous wedding essentials.  Tickets can be purchased on-line at http://theweddinglibrary.tix.com or by calling us at 212.327.0100.  Hurry as we will sell out!

Thanks Ladies!!!!  Below are a few images of Claudia and Jennifer's  beautiful events.

"Hitched"

Happy Two Year Anniversary Hitched and to the oh-so-fabulous owners, Carin and Julia.  Hitched is a full service bridal boutique located  in Washington, DC.  I spoke with Carin and Julia a couple of weeks ago and they are so sweet and so very passionate about their work.  They told me that they wanted to be able to create an experience for brides that they didn't receive when they were shopping for their own wedding gowns and to give their clients #1 customer service!  Well ladies you have truly succeeded and inspired brides to think outside of the box while giving the DC area something new and fresh.  I asked Carin and Julia to give us some bridal gown shopping tips to help you when shopping for the oh-so-perfect dress for your big day.  Meet Carin and Julia.....Enjoy!

"Carin and Julia's Bridal Gown Shopping Tips"

Sizing:  Have an understanding about how bridal sizing works.  Bridal samples generally run two sizes smaller than ready-to-wear.  For example, a size 10 fits more like a size 6.  The in-store samples probably won't fit perfectly - it's not a perfect process, but try not to sweat the small stuff.  When ordering your gown, don't get bogged down in what size you have to order, the most important thing is that it fits well on your special day!

Be Opened Minded:  Looking through magazines is a terrific way to focus you on what style and look you want for the big day.  When you start shopping, it's okay to use magazine ideas as a guide; however, be open minded in terms of fit and silhouette - sometimes you won't know what you love until you try it on!

Custom Changes:  It is now widely known that you can make custom changes to most couture gowns.  Because the dress is made specifically for you, in most cases the designers can tweak the style to make the look your own.  Often the neckline can change, trains can be shortened and lengthened and often other variations that you can dream up.  Sometimes it's as simple as asking the question - and you can end up with the gown  of your dreams!

Plan the Shopping Experience You Want:  Bridal gown shopping is an intimate experience.  If you like a party, feel free to include your loved ones in the process, but if you are more productive on your own, don't be shy to shop by yourself.  Be selective and only include people who will contribute to a positive shopping experience.

Start Early:  Custom ordering a gown can take time, plus it's a big decision.  The normal lead time for ordering gowns is 6-9 months.  There are always ways to speed up the process, but try to leave enough time to pick out just what you want and eliminate potential anxiety.

Deliberate Decisions versus the Ah-Ha Moment:  Everyone choose a gown in their own way.  Some people have the tearful, elated moment of knowing they have found the one (gown, that is), but the majority of brides make a careful decision after considering the options and then choose the gown they adore.  Not everyone is going to find the perfect gown and know it in the first instant they put it on.

Keep an Eye Out for Trunk Shows:  Many bridal boutiques host trunk shows with their favorite designers.  This means that the designer or representative will bring the entire current collection and will be on hand to assist with custom changes or measurements.  This is a great opportunity to see the full line of a designer's work,  meet and greet the designer, and usually there are discounts for purchasing!

Thanks Ladies, wonderful tips and thanks for sharing your big day with us!

A Perfect Pair

I love the wedding in today's post......Claudine and David.   Although the wedding is not a "Christmas Wedding", the vibrant reds in the bouquet are just perfect for the season.  Thanks Chenin of Boutwell Studio for the beautiful images.  As usual your work is simply amazing! I asked the oh-so-beautiful and talented wedding consultant, Stephanie Lairson to share some of the details with us. Thanks Stephanie!!

What can I say about Claudine and David?  They are two of  the kindest and most gracious people I have ever worked with.  They also have the craziest schedules out there - they live between three cities and are rarely in the same place at the same time, making the planning process quite a PROCESS.  While both of them have very traditional upbringings and wanted to continue that in their wedding day, they also really wanted this wedding to be the best and most glamorous event any of their guests had ever experienced - OK, well the glamorous part came from Claudine.  She (a pediatrician) is very stylish - as noted by the two dresses and hairstyles on the wedding day.  Claudine was open to pretty much anything I threw at her - color palette, custom red velvet cap linens and my favorite......a black cake!  David is a Vegas club DJ with a great party attitude!  He was a very involved groom and even mentioned on the wedding day that all the little details (like the custom linen) were worth the effort and the money.

Lyndsey Hamilton Events

Happy Monday Guys!!!!!  Hopefully everyone has the latest copy of Martha Stewart Weddings, (mine came in the mail on Friday!) and as usual it is wonderful and full of all"good things"!  The cover story is about the Today Show Wedding of Jessica & Cody, but there is also a beautiful wedding feature of Lily & Robert. I am happy to say that their wedding was planned by the oh-so-fabulous Lyndsey Hamilton of Lyndsey Hamilton Events, and the floral and event design by Matthew Robbins of Artfool, who by the way has a fabulous interview in this issue as well.

So I asked Lyndsey to share some of her highlights about the wedding and to give us a little insight on Lyndsey Hamilton Events.  So let's get started........

Lh

This year has been our busiest and most fulfilling yet!  My favorite wedding, Lily and Robert, took place this summer at the bride's family home in Westchester, New York.  We planned the wedding from beginning to end.  We worked closely with the bride's mother, as the bride lived in London throughout the entire planning process.  It was a labor of love and so rewarding to see the event unfold and come into fruition.  We began planning in January and over the next seven months, my team at LHE (Lyndsey Hamilton Events) and Matthew Robbins and his team at Artfool, managed to create a Martha Stewart worthy event!

We love planning events at homes because they are so personal and literally EVERY detail has to be considered, from what place setting to use, to the lighting, and the ingredients of the menu.  It is truly special to be apart of this process!

This past year, LHE expanded to California, with one of our New York planners, Jennifer Brown.  We are planning events throughout California, from Vineyard weddings to grand Malibu estate events.

Planning Tips for the Brides: ENJOY your day and RELINQUISH CONTROL!  Trust your vendors and your planning.  LIVE in the moment of the day!  You will know when you find the PERFECT LOCATION!  Decide what is the most important to you and BUDGET ACCORDINGLY!  Make a list and place each vendor category in order of importance and what percentage of your budget you are going to allocate for each category.  I always tell my clients that food and alcohol can consume up to 50% of the budget.

In 2008, we look forward to all of the fabulous and distinctive events in New York, New England and California.  We welcome embarking on another great season!

Thanks Lyndsey for sharing a little part of "your world" with us.  Below is a beautiful wedding that Lyndsey also planned that took place at the Wheatleigh Hotel....Enjoy guys!

Wedding Planning 101

Last week I received a few e-mails from TBC readers wanting to know if they should go with the "Month of Coordination" versus the "Full Wedding Coordination and Design" planner.  So I posed the question to Kelly Gin, of Picture Perfect Events

Many couples work (collectively) 80+ hours a week and have very little time to plan their wedding.  It can become overwhelming researching service providers, scheduling appointments, and finalizing the details.  By working side by side with a wedding coordinator, it will alleviate the intensity of the planning.  A wedding coordinator will have an array of resources to fit the couple's budget and style. She/he will carefully guide you through the planning to ensure every detail is met.

Month of Coordination - Many couples have the time and resources to plan and design their wedding from beginning to end.  It is essential to hire a wedding coordinator to tie up loose ends as the wedding day approaches.  Most coordinators will begin working with the couple approximately two months prior to the big day.  This will ensure all service providers are contacted, the wedding day itinerary is distributed and final details are outlined with the ceremony/reception location.

Full Wedding Coordination and Design - This service is designed for couples who want a coordinator to assist with every aspect of the wedding from designing the overall look and feel of the event to assembling the perfect team of service providers.  The couple will look to the coordinator for guidance and support throughout the planning.

With whatever service a couple decides to work with, at Picture Perfect Events, they will always receive the same level of service.  A coordinator will get to know their clients in an intimate way to ensure the wedding day will run smoothly.

Thank you Kelley for such helpful information and I hope this will help you guys when deciding on the level of service from your planner for your big day.  Below are images of one of Kelly's beautiful weddings.  Enjoy!!!

The wedding has a "tea theme" and each table was named after a different type of tea.  How charming is that!!!!!!!!!!!

Each table had an individual cake, too cute!!!!!  I love this!

The favors for the guest were little jars of tea.  It just gets more charming!!!!

Real Jerusalem Wedding

I'm so excited to introduce you guys to the amazing photography of Jeff Greenough.  I found out about Jeff from my client who is getting married in May 2008.  I was totally speechless when I went to his site to view his work.......oh-so-beautiful!  Jeff is very passionate about his work and it truly shows in his photos.  Jeff stated, "I desire my work to be more than just beautiful images; I desire it to be an heirloom for generations to come.  Marriage is about communication just as much it is about love, and I hope that my images will help couples remember why they love their spouse and why they choose this life-long commitment to one another".

The images below are from a wedding that Jeff shot in Jerusalem, Israel in the Holy Land at the famous King David Hotel.  Jeff told me that this was the most celebrated wedding that he has ever attended! Thanks Jeff for sharing the beautiful images and I will see you in May!
