I had the pleasure to speak with Moyna a couple of weeks ago and guys......she is truly wonderful and very inspiring....thanks Moyna for stopping by the cafe! TBC: What inspires you as a designer?
Moyna: Different things...it could be something in nature...a flower or changing seasons, a particular pattern or texture in a fabric, the environment...I find different things act as stimuli and inspires me to interpret them in various ways in my bags using fabrics, techniques and workmanship from India. All of my bags have extensive detail and a certain amount of embellishment in them.
TBC: How would one choose the perfect handbag for their wedding gown?
Moyna: Since my bags are embellished, I usually suggest that the handbag go with the detail on the gown, the embroidery or embellishment, so it does not clash. I sometimes suggest the bride match it to her jewelery - pearls or diamonds, gold or silver - since I feel a handbag can be like a piece of "jewelery". I also consider the shoes being worn...so it is a combination of factors.
TBC: What are some of the materials that you use when designing your beautiful handbags and what is your favorite material to use?
Moyna: I always work with silk fabrics...a soft satin is lovely for a bridal bag. Crystals and pearls are also my favorite when working on a bridal design.
TBC: What are the "essential items" that a bride should have inside her handbag?
Moyna: That can be very personal, but I feel there should always be room for tissue, lipstick and a compact. Some brides like to have their personal camera for the party after and maybe a credit card or some cash.
